An insider glimpse into the haunting world of Lavender Tides
By KL Adams
They tell you surfacing is sacred.
It’s whispered through the halls of coral palaces. Painted in pigments on the undersea walls. Spoken with reverence by elders who’ve long since forgotten what it means to want.
You rise.
You bond.
You live.
That’s the order. That’s the rule. That’s the curse dressed up in ceremony.
But for Weslyn — the princess of a kingdom cracking at the seams — surfacing doesn’t feel like a rite of passage. It feels like a death sentence with pearls on it.
The pressure has been building since her first breath. Everyone’s watching her. Counting on her. Waiting for her to step into her power and claim a human mate — one she hasn’t seen, doesn’t know, and may never want. But there’s no room for refusal. Not when the future of the kingdom is written in blood and salt.
And now, the ocean feels… different.
Wrong.
Whispers echo through the reef like static. Currents pull in the wrong direction. And sometimes, Weslyn swears the water hums — not with life, but with something old.
Something angry.
Then the news comes, and everything fractures.
Her sister has vanished. Her uncle has been taken.
Not by rival kingdoms or storm currents.
By humans.
Dragged above, into a lab that bleaches magic from the skin. A place where glass is colder than the sea and screams don’t reach the surface.
And while her people mourn quietly behind closed gates, Weslyn is told to continue. To smile. To rise.
But something inside her is already shifting. Her visions are warping. Her magic is unraveling. And just before she can surface, just before her fate is sealed…
She blacks out.
What wakes up in her place may not be what they were expecting.
And maybe — just maybe — the surface should be afraid.
